We had never hunted elk in our lives. We were introduced to Merlin and Gail by a mutual friend who assured us that we would get a quality hunt. He was right. Merlin agreed to meet with us numerous times to go over maps, answer questions and just re-assure us greenhorns that we were capable of killing an elk. Gail and he joined us in camp for the week we were there and, without question, helped us succeed in our endeavor. We paid a few bucks extra for them to be with us that week, but it was entirely worth the investment. That land is immense and without some initial guiding, it would have been overwhelming. We hunted the 4th season. By the time the 4th season rolls around the cow elk have been spooked. It took us a day to figure them out, but once Merlin and Gail got us where we needed to be, success was inevitable.
